Frequently Asked Questions

THE CHILDREN’S BOOK ILLUSTRATOR

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about working with Ros Webb on your children’s book.

What kind of children’s books do you illustrate? +
I illustrate children’s picture books with a strong emphasis on character, personality, storytelling and imagination. My work combines traditional-looking watercolor and pencil qualities with a warm, expressive approach designed to bring children’s stories and characters to life.
Do you illustrate the whole book or just individual illustrations? +
I can work on individual illustrations, selected pages, character development or complete picture-book projects. For authors looking for a complete visual journey, I can work with you from the early character and visual development stages through to the finished illustrations.
Can you help develop my characters? +
Yes. Character development is an important part of children’s book illustration. We can explore appearance, expressions, clothing, personality and the visual details that make your characters distinctive and memorable.
How much does children’s book illustration cost? +
Every project is different, so I provide a tailored quotation based on the length of the book, number of illustrations, level of detail, character development and the work required. Please visit the Services page for more information about the different ways I can work with authors.
How long does a children’s book take to illustrate? +
Timescales vary depending on the size and complexity of the project. A complete picture book involves much more than producing individual images, including character development, planning, revisions and creating a consistent visual world. A timescale will be discussed and agreed before work begins.
Will I be able to request changes? +
Yes. The illustration process includes opportunities for feedback and agreed revisions. My aim is to make sure the finished artwork reflects your story and the vision you have for your book.
Do you work with self-published authors? +
Absolutely. I have worked with independent authors and new children’s book creators for many years. I understand that bringing your first book to life can feel daunting, and I aim to make the illustration process clear, collaborative and enjoyable.
Can you prepare artwork for publishing? +
I can discuss the artwork specifications required for your chosen publishing route and prepare files according to the agreed project requirements. If you already have a publisher or self-publishing platform in mind, please mention this when you make your enquiry.
Do I own the copyright to the illustrations? +
Copyright and licensing arrangements are discussed as part of each project. The agreed licence will set out how the artwork may be used and any rights included in your project.
How do I get started? +
Simply get in touch through the Contact page and tell me a little about your story, your intended audience, your project and where you are in the publishing process. I will then be able to discuss your project and the best way forward.
